2007 Healthcare Hero Nominee
Shirley Seabury
Shirley Seabury runs a tight ship. Her efficient administrative abilities help allow A. L. Lee Memorial Hospital to function at its best. Seabury is the hospital’s assistant administrator.
She earned honorable mention status in this year’s “Healthcare Heroes” balloting.
John Bagenski, administrative director-laboratory at Lee Memorial, said Seabury is “exactly what a hospital administrator was meant to be.”
“Although difficult to put in a few words, mentoring, accountability, driven and dedication only skim the surface,” he noted. Seabury is responsible for the ancillary departments at Lee Memorial, including pharmacy, radiology, lab, dietary, medical records, rehab, environmental services and plant operations.
“All these departments operate at peak efficiency. She ensures all departments are consistently under budget while being focused on improving services and fully compliant with all regulatory agencies,” he noted.
Seabury began her career as a staff nurse in the ICU/CCU.
“I have an open door policy,” said Seabury, who is responsible for 13 department heads with varying degrees of management experience.
“I provide guidance and support to each as needed to maintain compliance with regulations and promote the hospital’s mission,” she said.
A member of the Rural Health Network, Seabury achieved a master’s degree in health services administration at the New School of Social Research in New York City.
She said her most significant accomplishment as being “instrumental in keeping A.L. Lee Memorial in the forefront of health care in Oswego County by providing the most modern and updated equipment for diagnosis and treatment of patients.”
