2007 Healthcare Hero Nominee
Jennifer Remmel

Some folks are followers, while others are leaders. Jennifer Remmel is a leader. Remmel is the director of nursing at Sunrise Residential Healthcare Rehab Center in Oswego.

She earned an honorable mention in the Nurse/Oswego category of this year’s “Healthcare Heroes” awards competition.

Remmel began her career at Sunrise in 1998 as a secretary in the nursing department.

While employed as a secretary, she became interested in the nursing profession and enrolled in a degree program to pursue a career as a registered nurse.

Remmel graduated at the top of her class and quickly climbed the nursing ranks to become one of the state’s youngest RNs to be named director of nursing.

Although she has realized rapid success in her career path, she is not resting on her accomplishments.

She is currently completing a nurse practitioner degree program at University Hospital in Syracuse, which will further enhance her expertise and scope of practice.

“Today, Jennifer leads one of Central New York’s most progressive sub-acute nursing teams,” said Sunrise Administrator Steven Reynolds. “Under Jennifer’s leadership, her staff routinely provides clinical services not offered by the majority of other New York state long-term care/rehab facilities.”

Remmel said the most fulfilling aspect of her job is the contact she has with residents.

Remmel—who has been director of nursing at Sunrise for the past five years—said she enjoys “making a difference in residents’ lives.”

“I enjoy being able to provide the best possible care and plan for them,” she said.
